Halloween preps and baby delights
We're building a bunch of props for our halloween party on Saturday. Buncha shopping today, which normally I'm not a big fan of, but today wasn't so bad. Last thing we did was pick up a few "heads" from a beauty supply store (to put monster masks on) and a I got a wireless X-box controller (pelican). I chose the pelican over the logitech purely over price. The logitech at $60.00 was $20.00 more!
After the shopping, I took Araceli to the park behind our house and taught her a few things. Btw - Today, she is officially 18 months.
First, I taught her how to roll down a grassy hill. Now that was fun. I haven't done that in 10 years. It was also good practice for her to walk up and down steep slopes.
Then, I taught her how to hit a t-ball. Also, gobs of fun. She's not particularly good at it, but it's fun to watch her swing the bat and count "Waaaan. Tooooo. TreeeeEEEE!!!!!" She then swings the oversized bat overhead like she's chopping lumber and bats the ball straight down. This is followed by a squeal of glee and her scampering after the ball. Mmm. It's good to be a dad. And guess what? I think I'm gonna be a dad again!
How can I possibly love 2 as much as 1? =D

What a week
Why is it that every time I go out of town on business, my site goes kaput? I'm going to pay special attention next time.
I was in Red Wood Shores for the past 2 days getting some "training." Both of my flights were at the crack of dawn, so I'm pretty pooped. Nothing like getting up at 5:30 in the morning, just to drive 30 minutes and jump on a 3+ hour flight. :\
The hotel I stay at likes me very much these days. The french accents irriate me, but the perks are nice. They had wireless in the lobby and so on the second night, I had dinner in the hotel and geeked out with my new Dell Axiom (with wifi of course). And wouldn't you know it? Two other employees sat down next to me. Luckily, I wasn't shunned for my geekiness. They were IT guys. One of them even put ministumbler on it while I wasn't looking.
Oh, and I ran 4 miles lastnight. Neat-o!

I guess I'm a baller now.
Good day today!
First, the house is reasonbly clean when I woke up.
Second, the Cowboys are officially an "ok" football team again. Thank the gaming gods! Being a hardcore fan of the 'boys has been pretty rough the last few years.
Third, the fellas came over today. We were supposed to play some D&D, but a few people didn't show. We goofed off doing everything from making lunch to messing with my wireless network. Eventually, we found ourselves out in the park behind my house playing some pick-up games with some other men from the neighborhood. Now, I've never played much bball, so I was admittedly a little nervous at first. But in the first game, my 2 consecutive hoops brought us even with the opposing team, and we ended up winning. Go me.
I only played 1 game, because I was cautious about working out too hard after yesterday's run. In the second game, someone wrenched his knee pretty hard, and I felt like I had made the right decision. I would really hate to pull something and do all this training without being able to do the event.
Then we ended up back in the house playing NBA Live 2004. Great game, and yes, I am talking about a product my company makes. We ended up the day at a Mexican buffet. Now what could be better? :)

Running 10 miles alone blows
So I was scheduled to run 12 miles today with the TEAM IN TRAINING group, but I "only" ended up doing 10. Now, yes, I am the biggest (read "heaviest") person training for the marathon in the group, so I expect to be pulling in the kaboos on a regular basis, but today just sucked. I ran the whole thing basically alone, because no one dropped back. Usually, there's a mentor or a sweeper that hangs back with the slow-pokes for support. Now, I'm usually not DEAD LAST, but all the people I used to beat have apparently dropped out. Go figure.
Anthony, our running coach, advised me at the 5 mile mark that I should only run 10 today, because my previous long was 9, and he feels very strongly about not adding more than a mile at a time to prevent injury. I was a little unhappy about the idea of running less than everyone else, but on the other hand, I ran TEN MILES this morning. So there. All you little fleet people better watch out. In a few months, I'll still be the biggest guy on the team, but I'm going to be in the top half of the pack. You just watch.

Last workout before the big run
I woke up a little late this morning, but decided to run anyway. I didn't get out on the street until 8:30AM. But it was cool outside, and I had the new digs that Kim bought me for cooler weather running.
I started my usual route, which I now know is slightly longer than I thought. I used to do 2 loops around a path in the neighborhood park, which I counted as 1/4 mile, however a neighbor with a tachometer on his bike measured it at 1/3 of a mile. My new pedometer agrees.
I get to the park path early in the run, after about 1/4 mile. During the first loop this morning, I started feeling pretty bad, lotsa crap in my lungs, and I kept coughing up icky stuff. I thought about cutting the run short, but decided it might just be the humidity, so I stopped for a bit and cleared myself up. At the end of the second loop, for some reason I decided to just keep doing loops. I ended up with 9! So by the time I got home, I had run well over 3 miles. Not bad.
Tomorrow is a rest day, and then I have a *12* mile run on Saturday morning! Wish me luck.

My uncle was in town
And he got to see my little girl for the first time since last Christmas.
For those of you that haven't seen her in a while... Here's a picture!
I suppose I should post one where she doesn't have gook all over her face, but y'know, she's a REAL baby...

I was out of town for the last week or so for my wife's 10 year HS reunion. I still managed to get in 3 runs, so I feel pretty good about that, but I'm not sure I'm prepared for tomorrow morning's 11 mile run.
Many people have begun contacting me about donating, and I really appreciate it. I'll have a dedicated fundraising page on the site soon, so I hope that will help.
I'll have an update tomorrow on how it goes.
