Any audiophiles out there?

I finally went and actually bought something really new and really nice with my hard earned money. Usually, I dream about buying really nice things, but find a way to avoid it until the urge passes. I always buy used cars, for example. Or the $80 video card. Or the Dell computer...

Well anyway, I bought a TV. Yes, a nice one. It's even new, although I did shop some used ones...I have some remorse about it at the moment, it just seems like an awful lot of money to spend on something not...meaningful. But damnit, I figure after all the stress of moving the whole team and family to Cali, I deserve a little excess. So there it is.

Unlike my current "big screen," it's not a 32" generic tube from wal-mart. And unlike my 32" tube from wallyworld, I don't think my "home theater system" from wal-mart will do it justice.

So I need to upgrade my sound system, from the reciever to the speakers. I'll start with the reciever...I'm thinking Yamaha. Any inputs (tee-hee)?

Yamaha has good stuff. Also, Kenwood has always had middle range to high end home audio receivers & speakers(www.kenwoodusa.com). I hear Onkyo stuff is very nice as well(www.onkyousa.com).

Focal.JMLabs has just about the the best sounding speakers on the planet(http://www.focal-fr.com/gb_index.htm); home and car audio. Their highest end line can get quite pricey though, like $70,000 for a pair of towers if memory serves(Grande Utopia Be's). But their budget stuff will blow away most other manufacturers. And the Utopia technology is trickling down to the lower end models.

Good luck on a purchase.

I think Yamaha is the low end of acceptable. Their higher end equipment is not bad but it is way overpriced for the quality of sound you get. If you are looking at Yamaha equipment you are probably shopping at a Circuit City, Good Guys, or something of that order.

Since you have reached civilization here in California you should go to an audio specialist. For the same amount of money that you would spend on a higher end Yamaha you can get a much better sounding low end system from one of the higher end companies. I have not really looked in to systems in quite some time but Nakamichi and MacIntosh (no relation) used to have some very high quality systems.

My suggestion is if you are going to go on the low end of acceptable is to go with a Denon receiver and Infinity speakers. Although I don't really like Infinity's customer service (I bought some speakers that were used on the floor and wanted new screens) I think they are the highest quality speakers that you will find at that level of store. Klipsch speakers would also be good.

Good luck!

Well I would go with Onkyo you can get a good setup and better quality. Yamaha is okay but the midrange and tweeters tend to blow out easy. Kenwood is also another good one but sometimes hard to setup. Unless your going to spend thousands then Onkyo still would be the best bet!
