Moonglow, My Brother, And A Backup Plan

Since Davian and I have spent less time together, that means I'm spending more time on my own. I have been hunting south of Moonglow. Janey the Deer Hunter. Hinds give me fairly good money and I can kill them without dying, which is a plus. They are also *everywhere* down there... which is another plus.

Something strange happened to me while I was skinning my kill. Out of the blue, a woman rode up on her horse. I can't remember her name except that it started with an E. She asked me if I had seen a guy dressed all in purple. I told her I hadn't. She said, "His name is Eedwick or something." I told her that I knew Eedwick, but hadn't seen him in a few days. Then I asked her why she was looking for him, and she was evasive. I started to think that maybe she wanted to find him for less-than-honorable reasons. But she was polite, and she didn't kill me, so I thought maybe not. I asked her if I should tell him that she was looking for him if I saw him. She said no thank you. She left.

I thought it was really bizarre that she had asked me. Out of the blue. And not only that - out of all the people she could have asked about - she asked about somebody I know... and I don't know that many people. Too weird.

On Sunday, my brother came over to hang the blinds in my bedroom and dual closet rods in the closet in my spare-bedroom-slash-computer-room. He sat on a chair next to me, and watched me play. He says, "What weapon are you using?" I told him I was an Archer. He says, "You should get a sword." I told him I didn't want a sword.

Standing over my freshly slain deer, two guys came up and said, "Can I have some arrows?" I said, "I only have 30." Then one of them says, "Not any more! Aahahaah!" They had stolen them. I had 27, then I had none. As they walked off and said, "Place the S-Word." (they didn't really say "ess-word," of course) I don't even know what that means. Place the S? Place it where - on your noggin?

Mike (my brother) said, "You mean those were real people on the other end who stole those arrows?" I said, "Uh-huh." He said, "Bastards." I said, "Uh-huh." Not that it was really that big of a deal that they stole twenty-seven arrows. I could make more. But what if they stole them while I was in combat? There I would be... with no arrows and no backup plan... getting my butt kicked.

I turned to my brother and said: "You're right. I need a sword."

I logged off and loaded up Stratics, and told him he could pick one out for me. He said I should get a Katana. So I did. Now I have a backup plan. I feel a little better. I'd feel even better yet if my swords skill was higher than 25. ;)

Lesson Learned: Always Have A Backup Plan.

As Mike was leaving, I told him he could come over while I wasn't home and make a character if he wanted. I was just being polite... I didn't really think he'd take me up on my offer. But Monday, I came home from work at 4pm, and he had been there for four hours playing. He had named himself THOR. Not Thor, but THOR. I said, "Oh, *that's* original." He said, "Yeah, I know, but I couldn't think of anything." I showed him The Onomastikon … and he decided he liked Connor better. We made Connor (not CONNOR) on Baja.

At six-thirty, I finally had to say: "Okay, Mike. My turn. Go home and eat some dinner."

The other monster I created was my brother. When I got home today, my toilet seat was up and I was less one beer. He had struck again.
