Zogal the Killstealing, Exploiting Roleplayer
![]()
Davian and I are both level twelve. We've been
hunting lions and bears and spiders and beetles (and when we can find them alone
or in non-spellcasting pairs, bandits) in W. Karana. More than half of our
treasure has consisted of Ruined Pelts worth 8 coppers. Money is extremely
hard to come by. We have - somehow - managed to save up enough money to
deck ourselves out in armor (him in leather, me in a combo of patchwork and
leather).
Our most recent purchase, though, was our most expensive purchase yet. Tuesday
night, we purchased a Combing Lonsgsword at the gypsy camp. A +0 Magic
Sword, just for me. I *never* get to go first, in our little duo. He
always does. But my sword was 56 platinum, and his was 115, so I got to go
first. Still, 56 platinum is seven THOUSAND ruined pelts worth of work.
We decided to go to Erud's Crossing and kill wisps. Wisps have phat lewt.
They have bits of money and lightstones (sell for 9 gold - almost a platinum)
and sometimes GREATER lightstones (4 platinum). Davian the paladin doubled
as the cleric, healing me while I whacked them with my new magic sword.
Wisps, you see, are invulnerable to normal attacks. So the only people who
can kill them are Magic-users, or warriors who saved up enough to buy this
FREAKING expensive sword. (notice how i didn't say archers. There
ARE no archers in EQ)
In an entire day in W. Karana, we made 7 platinum. In a half an evening in
Erud's Crossing, we made 22 platinum. You do the math. Needless to
say, we decided to go back again on Wednesday night.
I tracked a wisp as soon as we got off the boat. We ran towards it and
attacked it. No sooner did we get it targeted than Zogal the level 15
Dwarf Druid run up, cast two or three spells at it, and kill it dead before our
eyes, stealing the loot and the exps.
He says to us: "This is my island! You better leave if you know
what's good for you!"
I said, "No, it's not, and we're not going anywhere."
Davian says, "Bite me."
Zogal says, "Yes it is! A GUIDE said I could have it! I am
roleplaying, so beat it! I have a house here that you can't even
see!"
I said, "Impressive. We're not leaving."
We take off to find another kill, that he steals from us also. "The
sooner you learn that Zogal and Goldenleaf(?) the druids own this island, the
better off you'll be! Leave now! This is my island!"
By now, I am wondering if he has a Vendor Buy This Is My Island macro. I
/t him: "No, it's not." he /t's me back that a guide said
he could have it, and that he is way older then me (his mis-spelling, not mine),
so he deserves respect or something to that effect. I /t him back that I
could care less, it's NOT his island, and we aren't leaving, so HE better learn
to live with it. He mouthed off a bit more, calling me 'ugly one' and
threatening to train a bunch of zombie sailors to us if we didn't leave.
I said, "We don't mind dying. We'll just be back."
He says, "I'll just kill you again!"
I told him, "So then we'll be back again. If you harass us, you WILL
have problems."
[somewhere in here, I paged a GM to tell them this Zogal guy was harassing us,
stealing kills, threatening to train monsters on us if we didn't leave. All
through this time, about 2/3 the time we found kills, he would come up and steal
them from us]
He says, "I am roleplaying!! You don't understand, I don't leave this
island except to get supplies. I live here. I have a house that you
can't see!"
I said, "You're not roleplaying; you are abusing exploits - training
monsters and stealing kills."
He says, "Just so you don't sound like a newbie, stealing kills isn't an
exploit."
I said, "What is it, then? And.. certainly circumventing the pk-switch
is an exploit."
He says, "It is a way to tell you that you suck."
I said, "Ohhh... I see. You're not a roleplayer, what you REALLY are
is a kewlio in sheep's clothing."
He says, "I'm not one of those teenaged punks! I am 49 years old!
YOU are the kewld00d!"
Why do I not believe that he is 49 years old? I say, "How am I the
kewlio? You are the one who just said 'u suk.' Kewlness doesn't have
anything to do with age. It is ALL attitude."
He says, "You just don't like that I am roleplaying. You need to go
play quake if you don't want to roleplay."
I say, "I understand that you are roleplaying. I even find the
takeover of an island to be interesting. However, the game does not allow
you to do what it is that you want to do. It doesn't really allow you to
defend your island, because of the pk-switch. There really isn't a whole
heck of a lot you CAN do to us, besides abuse exploits and generally be a jerk.
I suggest you go to Rallos Zek if you want to defend your island, because you
really can't do it here."
He didn't say much to us after that. I think he stole another kill or two,
though.
A GM responded a little while later with: "Is Zogal up to his old
tricks again?" I explained what he was doing... and she says,
"Okay, thanks for the info." Right then, he tried to steal
another kill. I told the GM: "He's doing it again if you want to come
see for yourself." She says, "Don't worry, I fixed it.
:)" He couldn't steal the kill from us. I think she must have
weakened his spells a LOT or something. I watched him, trying to cast
spells and have them either not work or not do a lot of damage, and said to the
GM: "Heheheee... thanks very much. :D"
I am not sure if she talked to him personally? After that, we didn't see
him for the rest of the night, even though he was on the island. Maybe he
was in his 'house.'
Davian died twice and I died once from three wisps ganging up on us at once,
though... and we hardly made any money. First the jerk, then dying, then
no cash... what a horrible night. :(
