Quest for a Holy Sword

Saturday, I am going to go camping in Everquest. It is terrible, but we need to do it. There is a Holy Sword down there for my paladin. Last night, I had an unhappy paladin. I hate having an unhappy paladin... probably more than he hates having an unhappy druid.

He was unhappy because he is falling behind on the damage scale. Monks, etc., around our level are getting new skills that make them really great, and Davian's new skill is a new sword, except he doesn't have one yet. We have to go camp for it. Bleh.

The sword is called The Ghoulbane. It is a 1h sword, but it hits as hard as a 2h sword. And it randomly casts the spell "Dismiss Undead." There are other holy swords, too... The Soulfire and The Firey Avenger ... but we're not big enough to get those, I don't think.

It takes more than two people to camp for a holy sword... but usually it is just the two of us together. We don't really have a Group that we go hunting with. However, Dundee and Shay have said that they will camp with us in Guk for his sword. "We love camping!" Dundee said. "Guk is the best!" Then he added: "We'll camp for Hours and Hours and Hours!" I made him promise not to complain while we were down there, because it would make Davian feel badly.

It will be VERY hard for me not to complain too... probably harder than Dundee... but I am going to try my best. Shay isn't really a problem. She's a trooper. And there is a mace down there for her somewhere, too. And she likes loot. So we'll try to get that while we're there. There are some Gator Skin Pants down there for me, too. So maybe the trip won't be so bad.

The thing is, dungeons are really hard for me. Cause of the sickness thing. And not knowing where we have to go or what we have to kill to find the sword (and the mace and the pants), makes me a little wary. Cause then we have to look around. And looking around tends to make me sick... because Verant, in their infinite wisdom, made the hallways tight and windy, and the camera bumps into them.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Well, our camping party fell through. So Davian went down by ourselves. I kind of liked it. Going down by ourselves to do something that nobody else wanted to do, I mean. It made me feel independent, and I like to feel independent.

We moved very... very... slowly. Each frog took me a bubble of mana to kill. We would med to full after every fight *just in case* something happened.

We found where the ghoulbane spawns, and killed off some of the Shin Lord's underlings. We realize now that we will need others (preferably one or two monks and a cleric. We'd like to have an enchanter, too... but we've heard the frogs don't like him very much.. and they are awfully swarmy) to go down there with us to actually get the ghoulbane. Some of that stuff down there is white and yellow to us at level 30. The shin lord will very likely be red.

We did get a few things, though:

  1. A neat neck-piece for Davian.

  2. A neat wrist-piece for Davian.

  3. Mesh pants and shoulder-piece for me.

  4. Other various mesh pieces that we don't have anyone to give them to yet.

The other good part about it is that the place where the shin lord is is a pretty decent place. I mean - there are little rooms in there with low blue things that we can kill. I actually made some experience. Davian's experience bar moved pretty quickly, though... just in the wrong direction.

One time, a frog got away. We kind of stood around and waited for the inevitable. The inevitable came, and it brought friends. I got a gate off with five of them beating on me. Davian didn't.

The second time, I got too close to The Shaman Pit, and they ALL jumped in at once. Crazy. Davian taunted a few off so that I could gate out, cause he knew he was dead anyway. I got a gate off for the second time with five of them beating on me.

The third time, Hiwei was with us. We all have to Stay On The Same Frog, so that I can Ensnare it and then blast it before Ensnare wears off. Well, one time, we weren't on the same frog. So one got away. The inevitable happened again. I gated, again... but this time, I was smart enough to bind myself where the tanks were, so I could wolf them for the four-zone-run-back-to-the-corpse thing.

The best part, though, was that I didn't get sick. At all. Even walking over the balance beam.

Odd.

We went back for the sword a couple of more times, but towards the end, there were some really rude people saying, basically, "Get the hell out of my space!!" so we bagged it.

Shortly thereafter, I bagged the entire game.
